Kathryn Vercillo

Kathryn Vercillo is a writer-artist-researcher who explores the complex relationship between art and health with particular focus on the healing powers of crochet. She is the author of Crochet Saved My Life: The Mental and Physical Benefits of Crochet and Hook to Heal!: 100 Crochet Exercises For Health, Growth, Connection, Inspiration and Honoring Your Inner Artist - work that's been cited in academic research about the power of craft and materials that have been used by therapists, teachers and healers in varied settings including rehab centers, prisons and classrooms. Kathryn has written for numerous online and offline crochet/craft publications over the years including 8 years writing the monthly column Crochet Heals for Happily Hooked Magazine. She is the display coordinator of the NorCal arm of the Liberty Crochet Mural (a nationwide craftivism project) and she created Mandalas for Marinke (a global collaborative project raising awareness about depression, suicide and crafting to heal). Her crochet art has been in exhibitions including 2025 displays at CCA Playspace and International Fiber Arts XII at Sebastopol Center for the Arts.
